LESS-THAN-FULL-TIME (LTFT) RESOURCES
If you wish to work LTFT, then a 60%, 70% or an 80% working pattern is usually supported by the school.
You can only apply to work LTFT during an upcoming rotation during a specific window a few months before the planned rotation. Timelines for these applications are published on the deanery website – see the button below “Guidance and FAQs about LTFT Applications – Deanery Website”.
If you are new to the training programme and haven’t yet started, you will need to apply to work LTFT as any LTFT working pattern from your previous stage 1 training programme won’t automatically be carried over.
Locum Work for LTFT residents
The Postgraduate Deans for the Midlands have agreed that most LTFT Doctors can now work locums and the previous cap on these have been lifted. However, you cannot cover a locum shift that results directly from you working LTFT. Locums should be undertaken within the same Deanery. All locum work must be declared on your Form R. If you are regularly doing more than 2 locum shifts per month, you should probably re-evaluate about whether you need to be working LTFT.
